In “Feminine Vault,” I’m studying the girl-thing as a choreography of screens, sweat, and lineage. The poem moves through a Zumba class, YouTube videos of professional runners, and the entrance of a big box store, all spaces where I spend time exerting my femininity in public or watching others do so. I wanted to play with textures of what I hear makes a so-called good woman. The only way I could land the poem was to gesture toward a dance that never arrives at definition.
